The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (504) require that qualified individuals be provided equal access to programs, services, and activities. California Government Code 11135 applies Section 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, as amended in 1998, to state entities and to the UUÖ±²¥ (CSU) system. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make new opportunities available to people with disabilities and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals. The UUÖ±²¥ system statement on accessibility is articulated in Executive Order 1111.Ìý

The CSU Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) is the effort by the CSU system to ensure that information and communication technology is accessible to all students, faculty, staff, and the wider community.Ìý"Accessible" means a person with a disability is afforded the opportunity to acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as a person without a disability in an equally effective and equally integrated manner, with substantially equivalent ease of use.ÌýInformation and Communication Technology (ICT)Ìýincludes websites,Ìýweb applications, digital signage and kiosks,Ìýsoftware and hardware, multimedia such as video,Ìývirtual and augmentative reality, electronicÌýdocuments,Ìýand digital presentations.ÌýÌý

Per Coded Memorandum AA-2013-03, the ATI Steering Committee and its sub-committees and working groups provide governance for the ATI at CSUDH.ÌýThe ATI Steering committee regularly meets two times each year and additionally as needed. Meetings are open to public comment and participation.Ìý
